Garland

Specifically, Garland is a city in the United States of America, located exactly in the state of Texas, northwest of Dallas. In addition, it is important to mention that this city is part of the Dallas-Forth metropolitan area. However, the vast majority of the territory of this city is located in the interior of Dallas County.

Thanks to the 2010 population census, it was determined that Garland has an estimated total population of 222,698 inhabitants. Also, Garland is the 87th most populous city in the United States of America. Not only that, Garland is the 35th city on the list of the best places to live in the United States.

 

Short History

The first settlers of this city arrived in the year 1850. But actually, the first settlement in this city occurred in the year 1874. Years later, exactly in the year 1891 the city of Garland was founded, and by the year 1904 the city already had a total population of 819 inhabitants.

In 1937 several constructions were carried out in the city. But one of the most outstanding constructions was the KRLD radio tower. Between 1950 and 1954 Garland's commerce was severely affected by a prolonged drought that affected the entire city.

After World War II, the population in this city grew a lot. This helped the population increase to a total of 38,500 inhabitants by 1960. Currently, about 37% of the city's inhabitants are Spanish-speaking.
